We are excited to announce our November online group exhibition Solitude is sponsored by ARS-Imago! With their support, we will be giving away an ARS-Imago Lab-Box to the juror’s top selection of this online exhibition! To enter, all you need to do is read and respond to the following prompt with your analog photography:

For this exhibition, we are looking to explore the idea of solitude! Michael Behlen writes: “As we age and grow, our lives begin the exponential increase of duties, responsibilities, and roles we must pursue in our daily lives. The oftentimes, grind of our work schedules begin to take a toll on our psyche and manifest themselves in the form of fatigue and exhaustion, both physically and mentally. The need to step away becomes ever more apparent, and we begin to look for relief - an escape. Finding release by letting go and experiencing the calming effect that choosing time away from it all can bring becomes paramount. This feeling can be found ranging from simple “me time” in the bath, to a getaway far from the reaches of modern living. We seek Solitude to refresh, regroup, and find ourselves. These experiences are needed by all, and quite often become points of entry through new doors in our lives. How do you define Solitude, and what does it mean for you?”

We invite you to submit up to two photographs for this exhibition that capture the concept of solitude and serenity. We offer no limits to the photographs submitted, other than the fact that they are created with analog film or process. The best of these images will be showcased in an online show curated by Analog Forever Magazine Founder, Michael Behlen, whose very own work and process expresses this sentiment. This online exhibition will go live on our website on November 18th, 2019! Please follow the directions below to complete your submission. Good luck!

The deadline for submissions is October 31st, 2019!

About the Curator

Michael Behlen is a photography enthusiast from Fresno, CA. He works in finance and spends his free time shooting instant film and backpacking in the California wilderness, usually a combination of the two. He has self- published two Polaroid photobooks-“Searching for Stillness, Vol. 1” and “I Was a Pioneer,” literally a boxed set of his instant film work. His latest book, Searching for Stillness Vol II is now out via Static Age. He has been published, been interviewed, and been reviewed in a quantity of magazines and online publications, from F-Stop and Blur Magazine to the Analog Talk Podcast. He loves the magic sensuality of instant film: its saturated, surreal colors; the unpredictability of the medium; it’s addictive qualities as you watch it develop.

For the last 5 years Behlen has become a serial entrepreneur involved in independent publishing projects which included PRYME Magazine and PRYME Editions, two enterprises dedicated to the art of instant film. Through these endeavors he has featured and published 200+ artists from around the globe via his print and online publications. Today, Behlen is the founder of Analog Forever Magazine, a brand new online and print publisher of contemporary analog photography.
