ABOUT
Founded in 2018 as a passion project between friends, Analog Forever Magazine has become the world’s premier journal of contemporary film and analog photography. Though we have grown substantially, our mission statement hasn’t changed:
We aim to provide a global audience for established and emerging photographers who use analog processes and techniques in their work by giving them a voice through a yearly print photography journal, online features and interviews, book reviews, and online exhibitions.
Now that we have published 11 Print Editions, well over 100 online articles, and several years of online and in-person exhibitions, we feel confident in saying we have achieved our mission and now live it every day.
OUR TEAM
Michael Behlen: Founder and Publisher
Michael Behlen is a photographer, curator, and publisher whose practice is grounded in metaphysical and mystical inquiry, exploring perception, temporality, and presence. He approaches photography as a contemplative discipline rather than a documentary act, treating the medium as a phenomenological instrument capable of registering stillness, uncertainty, and internal awareness. Drawing from transcendentalist, existential, and mystical traditions, Behlen situates image-making as a slow, ritualized engagement where meaning emerges through attention, surrender, and patience rather than spectacle or immediacy. In this sense, his work resists the acceleration and disposability of contemporary visual culture.
Behlen’s work is deeply tied to the material and conceptual constraints of Polaroid instant film. Its finite frames, volatile chemistry, and unrepeatable prints resonate with his engagement with impermanence and the passage of time. Rather than overcoming these limitations, he embraces them as essential to the work itself: chemical drift, streaking, and unplanned marks become expressive devices that emphasize ephemerality and unpredictability. Each print functions as a contemplative object, transforming photography into a ritualized engagement with both the world and the self.
Behlen’s Polaroid photography has appeared in publications including Diffusion Magazine, Fraction Magazine, Seities Magazine, and Polaroid Now (Chronicle Books, 2021). He has self-published two Polaroid photobooks — Searching for Stillness, Vol. 1 and I Was a Pioneer. His third book, Searching for Stillness Vol. II, was published in 2020 by Static Age. His forthcoming self-published Polaroid zine, Where the Water Waits, will be released in July 2026.

Michael Kirchoff: Editor in Chief
Michael Kirchoff is a photographic artist, independent curator and juror, and advocate for the photographic arts. He is an ongoing juror for Photolucida’s Critical Mass and has reviewed portfolios for several fine art photographic organizations and non-profits in the U.S. and abroad. Michael has been a contributing writer for Lenscratch, Light Leaked, and Don’t Take Pictures magazine. In addition, he spent ten years (2006-2016) on the Board of the American Photographic Artists in Los Angeles (APA/LA), producing artist lectures, as well as business and inspirational events for the community. Currently, he is Editor-in-Chief at Analog Forever Magazine, Founding Editor at Catalyst: Interviews, Co-Host of The Diffusion Tapes podcast, and a former Contributing Editor at One Twelve Publishing.
Lisa Toboz: Writer and Copy Editor
Lisa Toboz is a self-taught, lens-based artist with an MFA in Writing from the University of Pittsburgh. She combines photography and collage using family archives and found objects to explore autobiography, mortality, and storytelling. Her photo books include Dwell (Polyseme, 2020) and The Long Way Home (Static Age UK, 2018). She has exhibited internationally, and her photography can be found in various publications including Lenscratch, Reed Magazine, Fisheye Magazine, Uppercase, SHOTS Magazine, and Polaroid Now (Chronicle Books, 2021). She is the self-portrait category winner in the 23rd Julia Margaret Cameron Awards, a Photolucida Critical Mass finalist, and an Analog Sparks Best Conceptual photography award recipient.
Laura Barth: Writer and Curator
Laura Barth is a lens-based multidisciplinary artist whose work has been showcased in galleries and in print in the United States and abroad. She transforms memory, spirituality, and personal mythology into tactile, emotive visual alchemy through experimental analog photographic processes, particularly Polaroid emulsion lifts.
Laura became passionate about analog and instant photography because of its unique ability to capture moods, feelings, and memories, as well as the freedom it allows for creative experimentation, physical manipulation, and incorporation of mixed media. She is drawn to intuitive and experimental approaches that create unpredictable results and imperfections in the final image, inviting the viewer to fill in the blanks with their own experiences.
Lynn Bierbaum: Writer and Curator
Lynn Bierbaum is an alternative photographer and glass artist, currently working as a writer and curator for Analog Forever Magazine while also working for glass studios across the country. She has curated online exhibitions through Analog Forever Magazine and studio assisted for Jill Enfield at Penland School of Craft. Lynn has extensive experience as an emerging artist with successfully submitting artwork to gallery exhibitions and publications.
Victoria Kosel: Editorial Manager
Victoria Kosel is a Twin Cities-based photographic artist. She is inspired by the photograph as a physical object that can be manipulated through cutting, gluing, and weaving. Often documenting landscapes of personal significance, Kosel studies not only how the transformation of the print’s surface impacts the viewer’s relationship to the image, but how her own memories of the landscape evolve.
Kosel earned her BFA degree at the University of Wisconsin – River Falls with a primary emphasis in Photography. Her work has been selected for exhibit in several galleries and publications across the country.
Vicente Cayuela: Social Media and Community Manager
Vicente Cayuela’s photographic still lifes and tableaus have been commissioned by The New York Times. Born in Chile, his practice centers on research-driven, maximalist photographic sets built from urban detritus and hand-made props.
His debut series, JUVENILIA (2022), earned two nominations at the annual Saint Botolph Club Foundation Awards and won the 2022 Emerging Artist Award in Visual Arts for Photography. He also received a Lenscratch Student Honorable Mention and an Atlanta Celebrates Photography Equity Scholarship, among other honors.
A multimedia-focused cultural worker, he has led photography editorial projects, coordinating interviews with artists and curators while directing video and press projects for museum platforms and art publications in the United States and abroad. His 2022 interview with Sheida Soleimani was acquired by Duke University’s David M. Rubenstein Rare Book & Manuscript Library through the Strange Fire Collective.
He received a full scholarship through the Wien International Scholarship Program and graduated from Brandeis University with a BA in Studio Arts and minors in Art History and Architectural Studies, where was commemorated with the Susan Mae Green Award for Creativity in Photography and the Deborah Josepha Cohen ‘62 Memorial Award in Fine Arts.
Carsten Steinhausen: Print Edition Designer
Carsten Steinhausen received his professional training in lithography, graphic design, and pre-press in Germany. He started his own company, DesignCSC, back in Germany in the 1990s and worked for advertising agencies in both Europe and the United States before relocating to Los Angeles in 2000. Since then, his focus has been on providing digital retouching and photo compositing services for editorial, entertainment, and advertising campaigns (products, cars, beauty, movie/tv posters, and fashion, to name a few) as well as the music industry. He has collaborated with artists and publishers on several outstanding book projects, where his skills encompass a variety of tasks, from simple image optimization to book design, pre-press operations, and press checks.
