Online Group Exhibition - "The Future’s So Bright…” January 2020

"Bananas" by Lindsey Kennedy | Mamiya 645 + Color Negative Film

Analog Forever Magazine is pleased to showcase 12 images in this month’s online exhibition entitled "The Future’s So Bright…". Curated by artist, educator, and Managing Editor of Fraction Magazine, Bree Lamb, these photographs explore the ideas of a fresh start and a positive look into 2020 in individual and creative ways.

Bree Lamb writes: I am very pleased to jury “The Future’s So Bright” for Analog Forever Magazine. I appreciate the underlying idea behind the call – let’s start the new year, the new decade, with a renewed sense of hope and positivity. The idea is one that we have collectively leaned on for years with regard to setting resolutions and goals. To be better, to do better - whatever form it may take - the desire to hit the reset button is a deeply human one, and one that gives relief and promise during these unsettling times.

The images I have selected each reflect the contemplative tone that the new year brings. There’s a sense of mystery and the unknown, yet the visual cues imply optimism and humor rather than fear and anxiety. I appreciate the different subject matter and the unique approaches to the content. I’ve chosen Lindsey Kennedy’s image as the winner - it’s luscious and clever and has a great tonal range. The material, form, and attention to light and shadow ask us to look at something banal and familiar in a new light. In a way this is the essence of a truly optimistic point of view– not in the grand gestures, not in times of heightened drama – it’s the subtle, in-between, and often boring moments that we need to carry on and find the light. Thanks to everyone at AF and to everyone who submitted. Best wishes for a fruitful year!
