Online Group Exhibition - “Nonconformity” - Winter 2026

Analog Forever Magazine is proud to present "Nonconformity," an online group exhibition featuring 30 photographs created with film and analog processes curated by Daniel George, Submissions and Content Editor for Lenscratch.

Daniel writes:

As I reviewed images for this exhibition, I was attentive of the ways in which each artist visually interpreted the call of Nonconformity. In some cases, the approach was confrontational—defiant acts against forces that seek to define and control. Other times, the effort was quiet and introspective—subtle and thoughtful considerations of identity being shaped through time and experience. In any case, I was drawn to examples that felt like they carried a sense of conviction. And necessity.

This caused me to reflect on the benefit of art in chaotic times. Especially when the pervasiveness of things like wealth inequality, racial and social disparity, political instability, global conflict, and a climate crisis affect so many lives. What can artists do? Through their works they can exchange experience, raise awareness, speak truth, process trauma, generate empathy, and foster hope.

For me, these images assert that photographs can function as an act of agency—allowing individuals the power to shape narratives. Each picture comes from a personal place, prompting me to consider how the artists understand their positionality within a turbulent world. They reject passivity and invite reflection. They suggest that choosing to see and show differently is its own form of resistance.

Michael Behlen
Michael Behlen is a photography enthusiast from Fresno, CA. He works in finance and spends his free time shooting instant film and seeing live music, usually a combination of the two. He has self- published two Polaroid photobooks--“Searching for Stillness, Vol. 1” and “I Was a Pioneer,” literally a boxed set of his instant film work. He exhibited a variety of his photos at Raizana Teas, a Fresno tea room and health food store; his work there, “Polaroid Prints of Landscapes and Strangers,” was up for viewing during the months of June and July, 2014. He has been published, been interviewed, and been reviewed in a quantity of magazines, from” F-Stop” and “ToneLit” to “The Film Shooter’s Collective.” He loves the magic sensuality of instant film: its saturated, surreal colors; the unpredictability of the medium; it’s addictive qualities as you watch it develop. Behlen is the founder and Publisher of “Pryme Magazine.” You can see his work here: www.dontshakeitlikeapolaroid.com
